I have entrusted so many concerns to it; in it I have always found comfort.” Sorrowful Mysteries 1st The Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Olives “Jesus said to Peter, James, and John, ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me’” (Mt 26:38). In moments of anguish, our best attitude is that of Jesus: to seek strength in prayer, trusting in God, who is at our side. 2nd The Scourging at the Pillar “Jesus answered, ‘You say so; I am a king. For this reason I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice’” (Jn 18:37). Jesus is the truth. Let us listen to his voice, which reveals to us the Face of God and also the meaning of our life in this world. 3. The Crowning with Thorns of Jesus “Then the governor’s soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand.” (Matthew 27:29) Jesus was crowned with thorns and suffered. Even today, he suffers in people who are thorns to others, wounding them with their selfishness. 4. Jesus on the Way to Calvary “They requisitioned a man from Cyrene, Simon, who was passing by on his way in from the country, to carry his cross.” (Mark 15:21) Today, many Cyrenians are needed to help people carry their cross. Through them, it is Jesus who helps them. 5. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus “Standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother… When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son.’” And to the disciple: “Here is your mother” (John 19:25-27). Jesus, having nothing more to give us, gave us his mother. She is the mother of each one of us, she is the Mother of the Church.
