Eventing is an equestrian triathlon, combining dressage, cross-country, and show jumping to test both horse and rider across discipline, endurance, and precision. While individual eventing became a mixed event at Tokyo 1964 and women had won three of the past four titles at the World Equestrian Games, no woman had ever won Olympic gold in this event until now.
