Why the Renault 5 Turbo is a pure 1980s rally icon

Check out the Bridgestone Potenza RE005 👉 https://bit.ly/42tC8KG The Renault 5 Turbo wasn't just a hot hatch -- it was a homologation monster. Born from Group 4 rally regulations in the early 80s, Renault shoved a mid-mounted turbocharged engine behind the driver, turned the rear seats into an engine bay, and handed it to the likes of Jean Ragnotti to tear up tarmac stages across Europe. With 160bhp in road trim and over 350bhp in full rally spec, it punched way above its cute, boxy exterior. It won on the Monte Carlo, dominated tarmac stages, and became a symbol of an era when manufacturers built genuinely insane road cars just to go racing.
