In the work, the authors studied various sources of steppe origin located along the northern border of the Mediterranean in order to develop the most appropriate model for the separation of Indo-European languages in this region. They presented new data on the complete genomes of 314 ancient people from various parts of Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, including Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, Moldova, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon. Most of these people lived in the Bronze Age, but their ages range from 5,200 to 2,100 years old. The authors also provided isotopic data for 224 people and radiocarbon age for 144 people. Using DNA segments identical in origin and modeling admixtures with specific source populations, they gained a more accurate understanding of the genetic origin of these individuals.
