The power of the Kenyan sun | Salima Visram | TEDxMontrealWomen

Often girls in Kenya are forced into child prostitution as a way to earn income. Why is it that children, especially girls, do not make it to secondary school? What can one individual do to break this cycle? As women we find 9 reasons why we do something and 1 reason why we shouldn’t and we often let that one reason stop us. Salima is a 22 year old social entrepreneur and the Founder of The Soular Backpack – a social innovation that channels the energy of the sun into creating a brighter future for every child. She grew up in Mombasa, Kenya and developed a passion to do her part in making the world a better place from a very young age. Now a 4th year student at McGill majoring in International Development, Salima continues to embody her passion with optimism and tenacity. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
