How to use artificial light on location? That is an excellent question and it can be incredibly frustrating trying to shoot in natural light when you bring a subject out to the forest. You have everything planned down to a T but when you arrive and start photographing portraits, you realize how difficult it is to balance the shadows and how much of a green cast appear in your images. That can easily be fixed if you decide on bringing speedlights with you. Speedlights are incredibly portable, fit in a bag and can be bought inexpensively and yet they can create such an impact on your portrait photography. Learning how to use them can be vital for controlling the light around you and create the mood that you want in your images. Natural light is amazing to work with but is also highly unpredictable. Adding strobes, speedlights or other form of artificial lighting can help you master your lighting techniques and take your portrait photography to the next level.
