Because of its uniqueness and quality, Switzerland's largest carnival is an intangible UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Basel is upside down Our « Ms. Fasnacht » – as the Basler * affectionately call her carnival – takes you into the world of a completely different carnival. The spectacle lives from unique instruments, from creativity and inventiveness and from top artistic achievements. Socio-political topics, stories and news are conveyed here in a very Basel way: namely proud, with pointed humor and a sharp tongue. The starting shot is given on Monday after Ash Wednesday at 4:00 a.m. – in total darkness. Then the popular « Morgestraich » transforms the city center into a sea of lights of hand-painted lanterns, where thousands of disguised whistlers and drummers*accompany your lantern inside and thus your subject ( topic ) with music – until « Ändstraich » on Thursday morning, again at 4:00 a.m. You have to experience what lies in between.
