VECINOS EVALÚAN POSITIVAMENTE AVANCES EN EL RECAMBIO MASIVO DE LUMINARIAS EN PUERTO MONTT

Better spaces, better integration of people, and, above all, a sense of safety in the neighborhoods are the concepts most highlighted by leaders and residents from different parts of Puerto Montt, thanks to the progress made in replacing streetlights in large areas of the commune, which represents investments exceeding $600 million pesos. The work schedule will benefit 18 sectors of the city, improving traffic conditions and connectivity within the city. In line with the urgent needs established by the new administration, it has a deterrent effect on potential crimes, facilitating early detection of intruders or incivility, and supporting emergency response. During 2025, 1,459 LED streetlights are in progress or have been installed in eleven sectors, plus streets and avenues; another 509 are currently being awarded for installation in three towns, squares, and streets; while another 268 are currently being tendered to benefit four other neighborhoods. Meanwhile, six urban roads are awaiting approval from the Undersecretariat of Crime Prevention, and the city's staircases are currently being proposed, which will add another 265 streetlights. Hardy Velásquez, president of the Los Leones Alto Work and Safety Committee, Lintz Neighborhood, said, "This has been extremely important for the area. It's been over 50 years since the last streetlight replacement, including the staircases. 99% of the area is now illuminated. We are happy, and the community is happy. This measure benefits large sectors of the city, with 1,459 streetlights installed out of the 2,501 scheduled. Progress has reached 60% for projects underway and will reach 80% with new contracts awarded."
