Taboo - Self Service Dub (Give me some sugar, give me banana) (South Africa, 1987) (Bubblegum)

This is a dub version of Taboo's massive hit Self Service. It is the second track labelled Self Service from Taboo''s first album of the same name in 1987, one of the first releases on the Eric Frisch Productions label. It still has the "give me some sugar, give me banana" chorus but the other singing is stripped out. The band was formed by the prolific Thami Mdluli and Buli Arosi. Thami Mdluli played guitar for Tembisa Happy Queens who were later renamed the Hot Soul Singers (of Linda 'Babe' Majika fame). He later initiated the formation of CJB before forming Taboo. Buli Arosi later released a cracking solo album Oh Boy! in 1990 (a track can be heard on this mix:    • Lost 80s Synth Mix: Rare South African Bub...   on the @Lost80sRadio channel) while Thami Mdluli released a number of solo albums as Professor Rhythm (one of which has been re-released on Awesome Tapes From Africa) and The Boss. The name Taboo came from a combination of the first syllables of Thami and Buli's first names. Taboo made eight albums between 1987 and 1995.
