1987 Honda XR600R Torque Monster! Stanislaus National Forest - 06/15/26

1987 Honda XR 600 XR600 XR600R Stanislaus National Forest My son and I have a great weekday ride on fire roads in the Stanislaus National Forest, Sierra Nevada mountain range, in Northern California. Riding from Buck Meadows area to Anderson Flat, then up to Pilot Peak lookout tower. We are riding a low hour 1987 Honda XR600R and a 2007 Honda CRF450X. This video is of me riding the legendary XR600 up towards Pilot Peak fire lookout station. It's a treat riding these bikes back to back and comparing their characteristics. The 600 is sneaky fast, off idle torque accelerates instantly, then you are trying to get it slowed down on the gravelly road for the upcoming turn. It is stock other than the Showa USD fork and the MX style rear fender with under mount LED tail light and 18" rear wheel from a 1988 XR600. Dual 26mm Keihin carbs with progressive linkage. It sips the fuel and rides like a pussy cat on the first 1/3 throttle. After 1/3 throttle, the second carb starts opening, ultimately giving you 52mm single carb equivalent. This bike with stock gearing feels like it will go 100 mph. There are lots of blind corners, we go pretty slow around them assuming other vehicles are coming our way. I see a quail, rabbit, and squirrel crossing the road in front of me. Nothing better than a beautiful day in the forest. Hope you enjoy.
