Wardoyo Wijaya, the former Regent of Sukoharjo and husband of Etik Suryani, has been implicated in a corruption case involving his wife. Etik's extortion practices are nothing new; he apparently continued a pattern that had been going on since her husband's presidency. Now, Etik Suryani, the Regent of Sukoharjo, is a suspect in a case of extortion against regional officials within the government he leads. He was caught in a sting operation (OTT) conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday (July 9, 2026). The KPK's Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, revealed that investigators are still investigating Wardoyo's role in the case. The KPK has not yet concluded whether Wardoyo was directly involved in the case. However, investigators confirmed that the former regent will continue to be questioned to clarify the case's structure. The investigation is still pending developments regarding Wardoyo's health, who is reportedly ill. Wardoyo Wijaya As reported by Tribunnews, Sunday (July 12, 2026), Wardoyo was born on June 8, 1960. He is a politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). Before leading Sukoharjo Regency, he served as Chairman of the Sukoharjo Regency Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) from 2004 to 2009. His political career continued when he was elected Regent of Sukoharjo for two terms, 2010-2015 and 2016-2021. He was then appointed Secretary for Advocacy, Law, and Human Rights for the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments (APKASI) and Regional Coordinator for Central Java. Wardoyo was succeeded as regent by his wife, Etik Suryani, who won the 2020 Sukoharjo regional election. At that time, Etik was accompanied by Agus Santosa as Deputy Regent of Sukoharjo. The two were inaugurated on Friday (February 26, 2021). Etik was re-elected as Regent of Sukoharjo after winning against an empty ticket in the 2024 regional elections. However, he partnered with Eko Sapto Purnomo as his deputy regent. In addition to his career in government, he has also held several positions outside of government, including as Director of PT BPR Solo Baru in 2001 and Chairman of Koperasi Mandiri. In terms of educational background, Wardoyo attended elementary school at Jendi Public Elementary School in Selogiri, Wonogiri. He continued his education at Selogiri 1 Public Middle School in Wonogiri, and Kartasura Public High School in Sukoharjo. After graduating from high school, Wardoyo earned a Bachelor's degree and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Slamet Riyadi University in Surakarta. He also completed a Master's degree in Law at the same university before earning a Master's degree in Management from STIE AUB University in Surakarta.
