Seat belt on. Tractor brakes (yellow) and the trailer brakes (red) on. Transmission in neutral. PSI 85 or lower. Applied Leakage Test (4/60): Must not drop more than 4 PSI in a Class A or 3 PSI in a Class B in one minute. Turn on vehicle, raise to governor cut out (needle stops moving) by gently accelerating, and identify when done. Shut off vehicle, key to on position, release tractor and trailer brakes and allow them to stabilize. Press brake pedal to floor and hold firmly. Allow to stabilize. Read PSI in each gauge and hold for 60 seconds. After the 60 seconds, mention the PSI in primary gauge and the PSI loss, if any. Release brake. Low Air Warning Device Test: Should activate no lower than 55 PSI. Lower the pressure slowly by pumping the brake until you hear an alarm, see a light, or both. Mention the PSI in primary gauge as soon as the alarm or light turns on. Spring Brake Test: Should activate between 20-45 PSI. Continue lowering pressure by pumping the pedal until the brakes activate. Mention PSI in primary gauge. If only one brake activated, continue pumping until second brake activates. Mention PSI in primary gauge. *Un-chock wheels. Cab Safe Start: Close ignition key. Make sure tractor and trailer brakes are set, transmission in neutral, start engine. Light Indicators: ABS light, turn signals, 4-way flashers, high beam. Indicators must work. Oil Gauge: Must be working. Between 40-60 PSI or normal operating range. Temperature Gauge: Must be working. Between 180-190 degrees or normal operating range. Voltmeter: Must work. Between 12-14 volts. Air Gauge: Build pressure to governor cut out (needle stops moving), between 120-140 PSI or manufacturer specs. Heater/Defroster: Must work. Horns: Both air and/or electric horns must work. Mirrors: Clean and adjusted properly from inside. Windshield/Rear Window: No illegal stickers, obstructions, or damage. Wipers/Washers: Arms and blades secure, not damaged, operate smoothly. Washers must work. Emergency Equipment: Check for spare electrical fuses. 3 reflective red triangles present and PMS. Extinguisher properly charged and PMS. Safety Belt: Securely mounted, adjusts, latches properly. Not ripped or frayed. Brake Tests Engine on. Make sure governor cut out (needle stopped moving), tractor and trailer brakes on, and transmission in gear. Tractor Brake Test (Yellow) Release the trailer brake, and slowly move the vehicle forward. The vehicle did not move, indicating that the tractor brake is functioning. Trailer Brake Test (Red) Now apply the trailer brake, and release the tractor brake. Slowly move the vehicle forward. The vehicle did not move, indicating that the trailer brake is functioning. Service Brake (Pedal) Release both the tractor and trailer brakes. Slowly move the vehicle forward at 5 mph and apply the brake pedal.
