Anzac Station (Melbourne Tram Vlog 9)
The 19th of December, 2022 was a very exciting day! The first meaningful bit of the Metro Tunnel opened, although it wasn't related to the trains, or indeed directly related to the tunnel itself. Anzac station is on the site of the former "Domain Interchange" tram stop, and serves the Shrine of Remembrance and other important local institutions and buildings. After several road and tram diversions over the last few years to accommodate digging a station in the middle of a busy road, things have finally been set into permanent place with the opening of this tram stop. It will be Melbourne's first direct tram-train interchange - you will only have to walk off the tram and down an escalator, and you'll be on the train station platforms! A lot of this video focusses on the interesting tram infrastructure which seems to be in place to accommodate the reinstatement of tram route 8 which was amalgamated into route 58 during construction. It seems as if 58 will be retained, but 8 will be reintroduced to serve the currently disused tram line. Hope you enjoy this video, and sorry about earlier technical issues!
