The discovery of oil in Nigeria was meant to transform the nation's fortunes by bringing prosperity. Nearly seventy years on, it has been the main driver of the economy, but at a heavy cost. A new report commissioned by the government of Bayelsa, an oil-producing state in the south of Nigeria, details the extensive contamination of its land, its water and its people's bodies, from oil leaks and spills.
