03 Weight Shifts
In this Lindy Jazz class video, we explore a simple partner dance exercise to help dancers understand grip, arm tone and connection. We use a handshake exercise to ask: “On a scale of 1 to 10, how much tension did you feel?” Sometimes we think we are giving a gentle connection, but our partner experiences it as much stronger. Sometimes we think we are being clear and supportive, but the other person may feel too much grip or tension. This exercise helps dancers become more aware of what they are giving out through touch, and just as importantly, what their partner is receiving. A good connection in Lindy Hop is not about being floppy, and it is not about being forceful. It sits somewhere in the middle. There is enough tone to communicate, but enough softness to listen. This is a fun, simple way to build awareness, confidence and better partner connection on the dance floor. #lindyhop #swingdance #lindyjazz #partnerdance #danceconnection #learntodance #durhamdance #swingdancing
