What Saigon's 8 Million Motorbikes Carry Every Day
SAIGON REMIX — PAST • PRESENT • FUTURE A cinematic documentary uncovering the hidden stories of Saigon. Saigon was never built for cars. It was built for motorbikes. Look closely, and you'll see a city designed around two wheels — narrow alleys cars cannot enter, doorways opening onto the street, markets that flow into traffic, a rhythm no other city has perfected. Today, more than 8 million motorbikes move through Ho Chi Minh City. In some districts, there are more bikes than people. What looks like chaos is, in fact, one of the most finely tuned urban systems in Asia. Cars stop at the entrance of an alley. But a motorbike takes you to your front door — that single design truth shapes how Saigon lives, works, and breathes. From the Vespas of the 1950s, to the Honda 67s that rebuilt the city after the war, to the Honda Dreams parked outside the same door for twenty years — every layer of Saigon's history is written on two wheels. But the city is changing. New metro lines. Electric buses. A Saigon with fewer motorbikes may be cleaner and quieter. Yet a city is never just its infrastructure — it is the invisible system holding it together. When that system fades, something deeper fades with it. This is not a film about traffic. This is a film about the hidden architecture of a city — and what it chooses to keep as it changes. 🌿🌿🌿 SAIGON REMIX — Past • Present • Future Through cinematic storytelling, Saigon Remix explores the hidden cultural and historical layers of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) — where architecture and everyday life reveal how the past still lives within the modern city. 📍 FILMED AT | ĐỊA ĐIỂM GHI HÌNH Across Ho Chi Minh City — District 1, District 3, Bình Thạnh & Chợ Lớn 🌿 WHAT THIS FILM EXPLORES Why Saigon was designed around motorbikes, not cars The hidden urban logic of a city with 8 million two-wheelers How alleys, doorways, and markets shaped this system The Vespa, Honda Cub, Honda 67 and Honda Dream generations "Bikes of Burden" by Hans Kemp — what Saigon carries The arrival of the metro and what it means for the city's DNA ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 A City You Hear Before You See 00:38 Why Saigon Was Built for Two Wheels 01:00 Vespa, Honda, and the Generations Between 01:40 The Hidden System on Two Wheels 02:50 A City in Transition 03:40 What Disappears When the System Fades 04:30 The Saigon Still to Come 🌿 A Note from Saigon Remix We film because we love Saigon.
