Game: Crash Bandicoot System: Playstation Version: (US) This is a longplay of the game Crash Bandicoot, an action-platformer developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, released in 1996 for the PlayStation. The game's story takes place on distant islands off the southeast coast of Australia, where the evil scientists Dr. Neo Cortex and his assistant Dr. Nitrus Brio are developing a genetic accelerator called the Evolvo-Ray to transform the island's inhabitants into beasts with superhuman strength, and they choose a bandicoot named Crash to be the general of their army of animal soldiers. However, Cortex decides to conduct an initial test on a not-yet-fully-functional Cortex Vortex, the machine that houses the Evolvo-Ray, despite his assistant warning that the Vortex is not ready. Cortex tests Crash on the machine, but the experiment fails and the Vortex rejects him; Crash seizes the moment to escape through a window and ends up falling into the open sea. Cortex keeps Tawna, another bandicoot, as his next test subject. The player controls Crash, a genetically enhanced bandicoot created by the mad scientist Dr. Neo Cortex. The story follows Crash as he attempts to thwart Cortex's plans to take over the world and rescue his girlfriend Tawna, a female bandicoot also created by Cortex. In the game, we control Crash, who must progress through levels facing animals and breaking boxes to obtain apples and extra lives, as well as having the help of an ancient wizard spirit called Aku Aku, who has scattered masks of himself across the islands to grant Crash special powers. In addition to common items, Crash also needs to collect gems and keys, either by breaking all the boxes in certain levels (often requiring revisiting them) and also in bonus stages, which are essential to obtain a percentage. Crash defeats his enemies by jumping on them or using his spin attack. The game unfolds from a third-person perspective where the camera follows behind Crash, although some levels feature forward scrolling and side-scrolling perspectives.
