'They kept asking my Tribe, Would've KILLED us', Woman Shares Harrowing Account of Manipur Violence

Dr. Tara Manchin Hangzo, a prominent tribal woman and member of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) commission in Manipur, vividly recounts the horrifying events that uprooted her and her family from their homes. As ethnic clashes escalated, they found themselves relentlessly pursued, their houses set ablaze, and their vehicles destroyed. Faced with grave danger, Hangzo and her 17 family members embarked on a journey to Delhi, where they were able to secure a rented house. Nevertheless, she acknowledges that not everyone has been as fortunate as her own family. Even in her position within the Manipur government, Hangzo was not spared from the violence that unfolded during the clashes. Her firsthand experience serves as a stark reminder of the grim reality endured by many in similar circumstances. The traumatic events forced her to abandon the familiarity of her surroundings and seek refuge in a distant city, far away from her home. Her story reflects the resilience and determination exhibited in the face of adversity. Driven by a profound sense of empathy and compassion, Hangzo endeavors to shed light on the plight of those affected by the ethnic clashes. As a member of the ST commission, she remains resolute in her commitment to advocate for justice and provide support to the victims, working towards a better future for all. Hangzo's journey to Delhi symbolizes the struggles faced by numerous individuals and families caught in the midst of violence and displacement. It serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for unity, understanding, and collective efforts to address the underlying causes of such conflicts. Through her personal experiences, Hangzo exemplifies the strength and determination necessary to overcome adversity and effect positive change within society. Her resilience resonates with countless others who have endured similar ordeals, and her story underscores the importance of recognizing and addressing the challenges faced by marginalized communities. By amplifying their voices and advocating for their rights, Hangzo and individuals like her strive to create a more inclusive and compassionate society. Their collective efforts inspire hope and serve as a call to action for all to contribute towards lasting peace, justice, and equality. #manipurviralvideo #manipur #manipurnews #interview #manipuri Subscribe to The Times of India's YouTube channel: http://goo.gl/WgIatu For daily news & updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India Facebook:   / timesofindia   Instagram:   / timesofindia   Download the app: http://toi.in/3SLUCa80 Follow TOI+ for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis Facebook:   / timesofindiaplus   Twitter:   / toiplus   Instagram:   / toi_plus
