Replacement cork material in the correct thickness and cut to size can be purchased for a few dollars. Use a contact cement to adhere the corks. We use Selleys Kwik Grip (the Horizontal product is shown here but Vertical cement runs less). Whatever adhesive you choose should be removable as the corks are considered consumable and will need to removed again in future. The substrate should be prepared by ensuring any old glue is removed using a knife/sandpaper/etc. Clean with mineral spirits. Contact cement is applied to both surfaces and allowed to dry prior to bonding. The cork material tends to suck up the first coat of contact cement so a second may be helpful. Spread the cement and allow to set up as per the manufacturer's instructions. Contact cements can be noxious and you'll want to use it a well-ventilated environment for comfort if nothing else. The intermediate clutch can be assembled temporarily for added clamping pressure. Install the outer sprocket and the clutch operating bolt/nut to bring everything together. As the clutch is not installed on the mower at this stage, use a space on one side of the bolt to avoid having to run the nut all the way down the thread. The cutter clutch cork is fit inside the half of the clutch that engages the clutch cone. The clutch cone is obviously conical in shape and the inside of the clutch half is shaped to match. The clutch cork is therefore cut on an arc to fit. Install the cork so it sits hard up against the inside lip of the clutch half. Avoid getting cement on your cork faces and clean up any mess before it dries. 🎬 Watch all the rebuild videos here • Scott Bonnar 45 Rebuild 🎬 Watch all the teardown videos here • Scott Bonnar 45 Teardown 🎬 Check out the SB 45 walkthrough videos if you're new to cylinder mowers and Scott Bonnars • Scott Bonnar 45 Walkthrough ⚠️ Your safety is your responsibility. I make these videos to share as much as I can, as best I can, from my recent experience rebuilding two Scott Bonnar 45 mowers. Although I'm a passionate wood worker and ex-IT guy, I have zero mechanical training. I'm no expert on these subjects but I learn by sharing and it encourages me to grow a better lawn and build a better mower if I know you're watching! © 2020 Michael Hanes. All rights reserved.
