Drew and T travel 250 miles to Ford Abbey in Chard, Somerset, where host Alice Kennard opens storerooms packed with long-forgotten pieces. With the main rooms protected and many items marked under conditional exemption, Drew zeroes in on what he can buy. He lands a Victorian leather library chair with oilcloth for £300 and a battered tub chair for £100. The stars of the stop are a matched pair of faux bamboo window seats, riddled with what Drew jokes is “woodworm holding hands.” After some thought, Alice agrees to let them go for £650, giving the pair a second life outside the junk room. Next, in Northiam, East Sussex, childhood kicks back in at Phil Collins’ Toy Pedal Car Museum, home to around 590 pedal cars. Among Austin J40s and a pre-war Bugatti 35A prototype, Drew locks onto design classics he can actually take home: an Anthony Brothers Converto tricycle from 1949 for £385, plus a French horse tricycle velocipede for £250. He admires a Shocknose Ferrari pedal car but walks away on price, keeping the buying sharp. The final stop is Margate, where father-and-son dealers Ron and Ben Scott unveil a labyrinth of stock. In Ron’s so-called chair cemetery, Drew snaps up a London map (£40), a bobbin-turned Scottish side table (£45), a European machinist stool (£38) and a bentwood bar stool (£15). From Ben’s brighter, mid-century trove, he adds a Hadrill & Horstmann counterpoise lamp (£80), a pair of 1950s poolside loungers (£160) and two three-seat banks of Belgian army cinema chairs (£300, unassembled). Back in North Wales, most pieces need only light cleaning, meaning quick turnaround online and at fairs.
