How to Catch Fiddler Crabs for Sheepshead Fishing Bait

Here are some keys to catching fiddler crabs: 1) Low tide/negative tide is the best time to target them. 2) Look for them around flats with a sandy bottom. They're usually hugging tight to the mangrove shore line but occasionally you'll find them out in the open (which is when you cast net them). 3.) On a higher tide when they're not out in abundance, dig them out of their hidey-holes using a spade. To keep them alive between trips do this daily: feed them stale bread bits 1-2 times; clean out the container and leave a little fresh water in the bottom; check for dead loss and immediately remove any dead crabs as not to affect the healthy ones.
