Caterham Seven 170R Review: Petrolhead Saviour? Petrolheads. We are under attack, hybrids and EVs are taking over, petrol prices are soaring and one day...the manual gearbox will be dead. But fear not, my octane fuelled brethren, because I bring you hope, I bring you a light at the end of the tunnel - I bring you...the Caterham Seven 170R. This truly is an important car for the future of the petrolheads, but why? Watch the video to find out. Powering this Golden Saffron (an Aston Martin colour, no less) is a small, but perfectly formed three cylinder 660cc provided by Suzuki. It's aided by a turbocharger and offers 85hp along with 116Nm of torque. That may sound very weedy, but just consider this - the Seven 170R weighs just 440kg. Yes, you read that right. This makes it the lightest Seven that has ever been made. It's also the smalled model in the current range. 60mph is dealt with in under 7 seconds, and the top speed is 105mph. As you would expect, power is fed to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual and in the case of the R, a limited slip differential. The R pack (£23,990) also offers a lightweight flywheel, shift light, sports suspension, carbon fibre dashboard with composite race seats with a four point harness.
