One of the subjects said something that still sticks with me: "I don't have the possibility to think about the far future. I think only about this day. I think about what I can do today to help. Because I think that I can do something for people." That was Rostyslav, who is still in his twenties, at the time, he was making shirts in a war zone, and he has more clarity about how to live then, than most of us ever do. I spend a lot of time living in the future. How this film will come together. How to bring it to an audience. How that audience will receive it. Those are real things I need to think about. But they have a cost. They pull me out of the day I'm actually standing in. So here is where I'd like us all the change: Stop focusing so much on what to do. Focus more on how to be.
