U.S. EDCA Sites in the Philippines Completed the 3KM Runway and will Develop Naval Base

The Philippine government is completing the construction of the military runway, in Balabac Island near the disputed west Philippine Sea, within the province of Palawan, one of the key locations of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement Edka, between the Philippines and the United States. Balabac Naval Station is also upgraded which is located on the other side of the island from the airfield. The ambitious plan to enhanced the naval base with the construction of a causeway and pier. Upon completion, this infrastructure could accommodate larger vessels and amphibious transports, as evidenced by the diagram of the project depicting a frigate or destroyer-sized ship as a reference for the scale of the pier.
