In 1923, the Dominion Observatory in Ottawa launched the radio station 9CC for the experimental transmission of time signals on a regular basis. Station 9CC operated on on 275 meters or 1090 kHz. Later it changed its callsign to VE9CC and then VE9OB transmitting on the frequencies of 3333, 7353 and 14705 kHz.
