Stanzin Lakpa voices disappointment over dropping of Autonomous District Council demand

Stanzin Lakpa, Councillor of Cha Constituency, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and the government for the positive outcomes of the July 3 meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the APEX Body, and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA). Reacting to the reported decision to scrap the demand for an Autonomous District Council for Zanskar, Lakpa termed the move "irresponsible and unfortunate." He said that the demand for an Autonomous District Council was aimed at empowering the people of remote and far-flung areas by ensuring greater local governance and addressing their developmental needs. He expressed disappointment that such an important demand had been dropped, stating that it undermines the aspirations of the people of Zanskar for stronger local representation and self-governance.
