The Fundamentals - Standing Long Jump
This video covers the fundamental technique and coaching considerations for the standing jump. **Skill Components** TAKE OFF Eyes focused forwards Flat back, hips, knees and ankles bent & arms behind Quickly swing arms forward as legs straighten at take off Powerful push from the legs through to the toes LANDING Quiet (soft) landing Maintain slight forward lean & stable body position with backside out Land on two feet simultaneously and flex at hip, knee and ankles. (Ideally into sand pit or soft surface) **Coaching Tips** Maintain slight forward lean over the thighs Move the arms to behind the body as far as they will go and then swing them rapidly forward and try to “stop” the arms horizontally in front (at head height or just past head height) Ensure a continuous movement Greater bend of knees followed by forceful extension Keep chest forward, bend hips, knees and ankles Bend hips, knees and ankles on landing
