The Killing of John Harrison and the War of Independence in Ballinamore 1921 Video of actual lecture (55 mins) John Harrison, a Methodist farmer from Drumreilly was 'Executed' by the IRA for being an informer, or 'Foully Murdered' in the eyes of the authorities, in April 1921. His killing was raised in the House of Commons. This presentation looks in detail at the War of Independence in Ballinamore, to explain the context in which John Harrison was killed. The statements given years later, by the Local IRA to the Bureau of Military History, proved an invaluable source of information. This presentation strives to discover exactly why Harrison was killed, as well as giving an insight into the harsh reality of the War of Independence, in and around Ballinamore.
