History and information about the place: Chełm - a city with poviat rights in eastern Poland, in the Lublin Province. It is located 42 km from the border with Belarus and 21 km from the border with Ukraine, near the border crossing in Dorohusk. It is situated on the Uherka River, the left tributary of the Bug, and is the third most populous city in the voivodship. Chełm is located in the historic Red Ruthenia. A royal town founded in 1392, until the partitions, it was located in the Ruthenian voivodeship of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland [2]. It belonged to the Chełm starosty in 1570. Chełm obtained the right to store in 1541 [4]. The government city of the Congress Kingdom was located in 1827 in the Chełm poviat, the Krasnystaw region of the Lublin voivodeship. In the years 1912–1915 excluded from the territory of the Kingdom, together with the Chełm governorate. The capital of the historic Chełm land, Chełm province, Chełm voivodeship 1975–1998 and several times the poviat.
