▶ The Colorful Dream World of Multicultural Youth Danisik is from a multicultural family with parents of Indian descent, Donghyun and Yeji are Vietnamese, and Leah is Nigerian. They are all expected to enter the job market soon, but they haven't yet decided on a career path that best suits their aptitudes. So, since April, they have been participating in the "Harmonium" program every Saturday, receiving vocational training and exploring their futures. This series chronicles the 150 days of growth for these multicultural youth as they pursue their dreams while receiving training in four popular careers: IT, F&B (chef, barista, etc.), video planning and editing, and landscaping. ▶ "Harmonium": Dreaming of Harmony for Future Generations! According to the "2025 Youth Statistics" released by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in May, the youth population in Korea (ages 9-24) has decreased by about half over the past 40 years, while the number of multicultural students has nearly tripled, from 67,806 in 2014 to 193,814 (3.8% of the total student population of 5,142,000). Although Koreans born in Korea, children from multicultural families who are raised by parents with language difficulties or who grow up traveling between Korea and a foreign country face challenges entering society due to language barriers and lack of educational opportunities. Kia's "Harmonium," launched this year to raise awareness and support the growth of multicultural youth, is a social contribution program that helps youth from multicultural families who face social discrimination or are otherwise excluded from educational opportunities to pursue their dreams and grow into valuable members of society. From April to August, 25 multicultural youth received four months of support, including job training, career and psychological counseling, and internships, and began pursuing their dreams. ▶ 'Multiculturalism': A Symbol of Diversity and Inclusion The dictionary definition of a 'multicultural family' is "a family formed by people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds." It truly represents the diversity our society should strive for. With dark skin, distinct features, and a height significantly higher than her peers, Leah is a Nigerian-Korean. While some might mistake her for a foreigner, she speaks Korean better than English and enjoys tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and ramen, just like any other Korean girl. Leah, who worked as a magazine model in her youth but has since lost her dream, learned landscaping at Harmonium, where she learned the courage and confidence to pursue her new dreams while discovering her aptitude. Dong-hyeon, a Vietnamese-Korean, chose a career as an auto mechanic and painter early on, influenced by his father, who runs an auto repair shop.
