You were not on the western side of the mountain when We revealed to Moses, nor were you among those who were present (in the Valley of Tuwa and Mount Tur during the revelation) (so that you could have seen, heard, and related the news)! ﴾45﴿ But We created many centuries (between you and Moses) from nothing, then their lives seemed long to them (so they changed the laws of the law over time). Therefore, We revealed to you the correct news regarding these matters, based on Our wisdom to send a new law and to narrate the past events accurately to future generations. And you were not established among the people of Midian (Shu’ayb (Peace be upon him) and his community) so that you could recite to them Our verses (the stories of Moses) one after another. But We informed you of these stories by making you a recipient of revelation. And indeed, We were always sending messengers (to their communities)! ﴾46﴿ And when We gave Moses the Torah and called, "Hold fast to the Book," you were not on the edge of Mount Tur. Rather, it was a great mercy from your Lord that you might warn a people to whom no warner had come before you (of the punishment they would face if they did not believe) so that they might be reminded (and act accordingly)! ﴾47﴿ If a great calamity were to befall them (in this world and the Hereafter) because of what their hands have committed (such as disbelief and sins), and they would not say, "Our Lord! If only You had sent us a messenger (before these calamities befell us), we would have followed Your signs and verses, and we would have been among those who believed." (We would never have sent you as a messenger to them). ﴾48﴿ But when the truth (the Qur’an) came to them from Us (through you), they (instead of believing, they became stubborn and demanded signs according to their own taste), they said, “Why had he not been given the like of what Moses was given?” Had they not also denied what Moses had been given before (before the Qur’an was sent down)? They said, “(The Torah and the Qur’an are two magic spells that confirm each other) and helped each other.” And they said, “Surely, we are the ones who deny all (the books from Allah).” According to the narration; On a religious festival day, the Meccan polytheists sent a delegation to the Jewish leaders and asked them whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was mentioned in their books. When they replied, "We find him in the Torah with all his attributes and characteristics," the polytheists, in their anger at not receiving the answer they desired, uttered the words mentioned in this verse. (an-Nasafi, al-Hazin, al-Alusi) ﴾49﴿ Say (to those polytheists who, when it suits them, ask you to bring a book revealed in its entirety like the Torah, and when it doesn't suit them, call it "Magic" (magic), "Then bring me a book from Allah, which is more guiding than the two, and I will follow it truly. If you are truthful (in holding that the Torah and the Quran are fabricated magic), then bring it to me." ﴾50﴿ If they cannot answer you, then know that they are only following their own evil desires. And who is more astray than the one who follows his own evil desires entirely, without guidance from Allah?
