What is velocity saturation in MOSFET?

Velocity saturation is the phenomenon in which electron reaches the maximum drift velocity at very high electric field. In general, drift velocity of electron increases with the increase in electric field. But, beyond a certain point, the linear relationship between drift velocity and electric field cease to exist. vd =uE. which degrades the mobility of charge carrier and intern lowers the current.
