I Thought I Wasn't Going to Catch Anything

📍 Tinley Manor, KwaZulu-Natal | South Africa 📍 Salmon Bay, KwaZulu-Natal | South Africa Tinley at sunrise and a kayak full of fish before the morning is done. Snoek on the lure and a bonnie for live bait secured two couta to round out the session. Justin had been struggling on recent missions and almost talked himself out of this one. Loaded the kayak anyway, paddled out at Tinley, and within a couple of hours had a stack of fish in the hatch. A snoek smashed the lure first up, then a bonnie that went straight out the back as live bait, followed by a couta on a quick jig and a second couta to close out the morning. After lunch the plan turned to Salmon Bay for an afternoon launch, chasing tuna and couta in choppier water. After a slow grind through the swell, a big tuna ate the live bait and turned into the fight of the day. Boatside gaff, into the hatch, and a session that had no business going this well after the run of bad days.
