UC Santa Barbara Professor Amr El Abbadi Delivers Guest Lecture on Big Data at ISSAI

ISSAI at Nazarbayev University proudly welcomed Dr. Amr El Abbadi, Distinguished Professor at UC Santa Barbara, in his first-ever visit to Kazakhstan. During his visit to Nazarbayev University, Dr. El Abbadi delivered a compelling lecture titled “Taming Big Data: Stream Summarization and Its Many Applications.” As a globally recognized expert in distributed systems and a Fellow of the ACM, AAAS, and IEEE, he addressed the complexities of processing massive, continuous data streams. He taught students practical ways to analyze real-time patterns using efficient approximation algorithms instead of relying on full data storage. Beyond his technical lecture covering cloud computing, heavy hitters detection, and privacy-aware environments, Dr. El Abbadi hosted valuable discussions with students and faculty.
