We went to Datong city, previously the capital of the Northern Wei dynasty 1,600 years ago. Though in the last 30 years it’s been China's coal capital and one of the dirtiest cities in the world, it’s seen a transformation in the last 10 years back to its original roots as a famous cultural destination. We went to ancient Buddhist sculptures and an incredible Hanging Temple, explored Chinese calligraphy, visited the largest tea storehouse in North China, and, of course, tried local FOOD!
