The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) has suspended Professor Juan Carlos Monedero from his duties for one year. The measure was taken after a disciplinary investigation into sexual harassment was concluded. Monedero, co-founder of the Podemos political party and an analyst with ties to the Petro movement in Colombia, was reported by a student in the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology. The administrative resolution confirms the commission of a very serious offense. Of the twelve-month suspension imposed, the professor has already served six months as a preventive measure. The internal investigation at the Spanish university began in January 2025 through a confidential inquiry coordinated by the Equality Unit. The case reached the Public Prosecutor's Office in April of last year. However, the Public Prosecutor's Office dismissed the criminal case, finding no evidence of a crime against moral integrity. Despite the dismissal, the Public Prosecutor's Office described the professor's behavior as "inappropriate," "out of place," and "morally reprehensible." According to the newspaper El País, the disciplinary file includes testimonies from several students. The students attribute humiliating comments to Monedero, such as saying that one of them had a "fox face" and stating that those who wanted to be mothers aspired to be "dairy cows."
