A large cloistered monastery where 70 nuns live in isolation. This is part of what we discovered during our visit to the island of San Giulio, a small strip of land emerging from the heart of Lake Orta, in the province of Novara. Despite its size, the island is rich in history and legends. We discovered them thanks to Alessandra, who has been a guide on the lake for many years. Besides the monastery, there are only two businesses: Signora Maria Antonietta's old shop Ristorante San Giulio, where we ate very well, run by two young and enthusiastic people.
