It is the birthplace of the Gomati River, which is the largest and most sacred river in the state. ​1. The Confluence (Sangam). ​The Gomati River is formed by the meeting of two mountain streams: the Raima and the Sarma. The point where they converge is called Dumbur. It gets this name because the shape of the confluence resembles the Damru (a small drum) of Lord Shiva. This specific spot is known as Tirthamukh. ​2. Spiritual Significance. ​Pitra Tarpan: For the people of Tripura, Tirthamukh is as sacred as the Ganges. It is a primary location for performing rituals for ancestors (Pitra Tarpan) to ensure their souls rest in peace. ​Atonement: It is believed that a holy dip in the waters of Tirthamukh during auspicious days washes away one's sins.
