The Untold Story: China's real role in the Pacific
What do Pacific Islanders really think of the Chinese presence in their nations? We often hear about China’s role in the Pacific in the context of geopolitical tension and rivalry with the western countries. But a story often overlooked is the role of Chinese migrants in the Pacific. Some Chinese communities have been in the region for more than a century. So, what does the Chinese community think about the geopolitical tension, and their identity in the islands? In this special episode of ‘The Pacific’ we travel to Solomon Islands, Tonga and Fiji to speak to the Chinese community and Pacific Islanders to find out what is going on.
