Edward Taylor plays Leighton: Fanfare

Kenneth Leighton started his musical career as a chorister at Wakefield cathedral during the 2nd World War. He went on to have a career as a composer and pianist via the University of Oxford and wrote much music for the church, both for solo organ and also for choir and organ. The Fanfare dates from 1966 and was a commission by Oxford University Press for the album, Easy Modern Organ Music: Six Pieces by Modern Composers. It is written in a processional style and mainly consists of chords with many dissonances. For an organist exploring Leighton for the first time, this is an ideal piece as it gives a good flavour of his style without being too complex. Performed on the organ of Carlisle Cathedral
