Grandfather Mountain - Macrae Peak

Hiking trails near me The day before Father’s Day, my son and I went for a hike on the Grandfather Trail to Macrae Peak. Although it wasn’t our first time to visit the park, it was our first time hiking up the jagged cliffs and rock formations. To describe this hike in one word…WOW! From beginning to end, the Grandfather Trail is packed with adventurous feats that will challenge you to out perform your personal best. It will push you and empower you to go beyond your comfort zone all the while rewarding you with some of the most gorgeous views in the Southeast. Some have said this hike is dangerous. If you’re inexperienced, that may be true. While we do not recommend this trail for inexperienced hikers, we do welcome you to enjoy our video - a brief glimpse of an awe inspiring day on the trails for a father & son right before Father’s Day. I will confess, my son is much more entertaining than me. I’ve taught him well (haha). In all seriousness, I couldn’t be prouder. He is incredibly strong and has a great sense of humor. He’s smart, kind, and it is an absolute joy to be his dad! The Cherokee called this place “Tanawha,” which means great eagle. They saw an eagle in the jagged cliffs.
