​A brief History of Thegtse Sang-ngag Chokhorling Monastery of Mon-yul Kid-mo Jong (The sacred hidden land of happiness) ​Thegtse Sang-ngag Chokhorling/Khinmey Nyingma Monastery is located in the village of Khin-mey near Tawang district headquarter. The name Khin-mey is derived from the Monpa word Khi-Ket Nyan-Mey, meaning a place for 'listening to the dogs' (barking) sound. ​According to the Legend, the area was covered by thick forest teeming with wild-life where the hunters would let their dogs in the forest and follow them by listening to their barking sounds. One day, hunters met with (a great Yogi) Mahasiddha Kundun Sangay Yeshe-Rinpoche, who was meditating in this solitary retreat. Subsequently, they were all tamed by the spiritual doctrine of this great master which led them to abandon the acts of hunting forever and became his chief patrons thereafter. They then offered this area as a monastic estate to their root Guru, and thus Rinpoche founded this Khin-mey Sang-Ngag-Choekhor Ling Monastery in the year 1440 AD. ​Mahasiddha Kudun Sangay Yeshey, the Supreme luminary of the Secret Tantra of this Monyul was born in the nearby village of Tsai-khar Gya-tag. He was not only prophesized by the great Oddiyana Master (Padmasambhava) as a Mandala-holder of the great treasure discoverer Pema Lingapa, but was also a wisdom emanation of Guhyapati-Vajrapani and Tantric-Raj (King) Nubchen Sangay Yeshey, whose successive incarnations has been deliberately disseminating the enlightened activity in this heavenly abode of Monyul for nearly Six hundred Years. Thus his successive re-incarnations and lineage holders has been rigorously teaching and practicing in this Monastic institution of (upper) Thegtse Kyed dzog ling and (lower) Thegtse Sang-ngag Chokher ling till now. ​The present Thegtse Rinpoche, H.E. Gyurmed Losel Gyatso, was born in the nearby Village of Lhou, in 1966. He was recognized as the 14th reincarnation of Kundun-Sangay Yeshey by H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche and H.H Mindroling Trichen Rinpoche and completed with the advance Buddhist studies from Mindroling monastery in Deharadun. With the noble vision of serving the beings of this Monyul (Kyid-mo jong) by the nectar of Dharma in general, and to revive the degrading lineages and monastic seat of previous incarnations, Rinpoche started with the noble project of restoration and extension of the monastic institute since 1992. Moreover, under his noble guidance, more than 170 students have been enrolled in the study of monastic education, ranging from basic literature of English, Hindi, and Tibetan, with unique ritual arts (according to the Mindroling tradition of Nyingmapa sect) till the advance study and practice of the Sutras and Tantras. Further, he also established the North-East Vajrayana Buddhist Cultural Association (A Non-profit Religious Organization) in the year 2000 and initiated the extensive project of restoring the upper and lower Thegtse Monastery along with many other monastic branches. Therefore, his genuine Dharma teachings and humanitarian services has greatly benefited to the Monpa Society as well as many disciples world-wide. ​May the Buddha Dharma flourish everywhere!
