UB67: GigRig Quartermaster QMX6 Switcher / Looper – What Are They? Do You Need One?
The GigRig Quartermaster QMX6 Switcher / Looper – Unboxing & Fitted to A Pedalboard - Review. When I started back playing guitar after a 40-year break, I would soon see a number of changes to the world of guitar playing and one of the products I would soon encounter was the Switcher / Looper unit. So, what is the GigRig QMX6 Quartermaster switcher? In a nutshell, it is a unit that gives easy on/off control to any given group of guitar effects pedals – particularly on a busy pedalboard. Another feature of the Quartermaster series of units is that you have something called a flip/flop function. This useful little feature allows you to have a bit more control over pedals - where you switch one pedal on, and another previously on will switch off. This handy little function just helps to reduce any dancing-around foot-tapping switches. LED lamps illuminate Blue or Red to indicate if the Flip/Flop function is engaged. The GigRig Switcher feels nice and solid in its metal construction and comes in a tough black finish with all the appropriate text information in white. As this is the 6-channel switcher, it has 6 Opto-Kick foot-switches on the top face, GigRig states that they have gold contact relays for a high-quality signal and extremely low switching noise. The unit itself is approximately 41 cm long. Another feature is that the unit is True Bypass thereby helping to keep the signal strength constant. The front side facing has 12 ¼ Inch Send & Return Jack sockets for up to 6 pedals while on the right end of the unit there is a ¼ inch input jack and on the left-hand end of the unit there is a ¼ inch output jack along with a standard 9-volt socket to power the unit. The Quartermaster series comes in 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 foot-switch units. In this video you can see how I have used it on my recent pedalboard project… Enjoy!
