Re-writing Socceroos History - 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Round 3 Matchday 6 - Australia v China

After a spate of retirements following Australia's 2007 AFC Asian Cup victory, captain Mark Viduka (114 matches, and 115 goals), alongside Josip Skoko, Stan Lazaridis and John Aloisi, a refreshed Socceroos face their very first FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in the Asian Football Confederation. Australia has been drawn with Qatar, Iraq and China, with the top 2 from the group advancing to the Fourth Round - which will see the top 2 of two groups of 5 advance directly to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. After emerging victorious in Indonesia at the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, interim manager Graham Arnold also stepped down, to focus on managing the Olyroos towards qualification for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. FFA have signed Pim Verbeek to manage the side until the end of the 2011 Asian Cup.
