The Chill

Dark Electronic Rock/Trip-Hop... Adapted from my poem 'The Chill'. (Please subscribe if you enjoy my content.) Lyric Sheet: The Chill (Electronic Rock/Trip-Hop Edit) *(Intro: A low, heavy, syncopated drum beat enters, accompanied by a cold, crackling vinyl hiss and a lonely, repeating synth-pad line.)* *[Verse 1]* *(Arrangement: Breathy, close-to-the-mic vocal delivery. Sparse instrumentation.)* A shudder takes the place of a smile Goosebumps tracing lines along a curved spine Rolling into a fetal position, down for a while The chill seems to pass... But for a moment... and then it returns in line. *[Chorus]* *(Arrangement: The bass drops heavily. Vocals split into a thick, three-part harmony with a sweeping, electronic delay effect creating an intentional emotional overlap.)* (**Main Harmony:) Twenty-four hours and so much has changed (**Overlapping Echo:) So much has changed... (**Main Harmony:) A life that was... is now rearranged (**Overlapping Echo:) Is no more, is no more... (**Together:) Just yesterday the dreams flourished high (**Together:) Now the chill returns under a frozen sky. *[Verse 2]* *(Arrangement: The beat becomes more aggressive, adding a distorted electric bassline.)* Just yesterday things were so different to see Life seemed full, right on the brink Now twenty-four hours have broken you and me Staring at the edge, watching it sink. A life that was... is no more. *[Chorus]* *(Arrangement: Full electronic production. Piercing, synthesized strings layer underneath the harmonies.)* (**Main Harmony:) Twenty-four hours and so much has changed (**Overlapping Echo:) So much has changed... (**Main Harmony:) A life that was... is now rearranged (**Overlapping Echo:) Is no more, is no more... (**Together:) Just yesterday the dreams flourished high (**Together:) Now the chill returns under a frozen sky. *[Bridge]* *(Arrangement: Full Polyphony/Counterpoint. Two distinct vocal melodies cut across each other simultaneously, fighting for dominance over a rising electronic crescendo.)* (**Voice 1 Melodic, sustained) A dream... a struggle... that we both endured Finding comfort with each other as we tried Then a moment filled with joy, so assured A smile radiated from within... (**Voice 2 Rapid, rhythmic counter-melody singing at the exact same time) Months passed... ending with disappointment Determined we tried, yet again we tried Proof positive of all we wanted, all we wanted Seemingly it could not be erased, not be erased... *[Verse 3]* *(Arrangement: The heavy beat completely drops out. Only a pulsing, sub-bass frequency and a ticking hi-hat remain. The vocal is a cold, stark whisper.)* The cruel joke was yet to be played out Spirits soared... laughter shared Then... like a carrot dangled, leaving us in doubt It was taken away... And the chill set in. *[Outro]* *(Arrangement: The trip-hop beat returns one last time, slower and heavily distorted, fading out alongside a haunting call-and-response loop.)* (**Left Channel) Taken away... (**Right Channel) And the chill set in... (**Left Channel) It returns... (**Right Channel) And the chill set in... *(The music degrades into static and abruptly cuts off on the final beat.)*
