My Favorite Luthiers | Episode 4 | Ervin Somogyi | feat. Billy Presnell

For the fourth installment of "My Favorite Luthiers” I visit with 7 incredible guitars from the workshop of Ervin Somogyi--ranging from his very first steel string ever made to his most recent Brazilian 00 to leave the shop in 2024. Working at Dream Guitars since November of 2023 has provided the rare opportunity to experience each of his models in a variety of tonewoods. From his Classical model to his beloved “Mod D” (Modern Dreadnought) that arguably put him on the map. Each sound clip was captured with the same recording chain and engineer, with no effects added. (Thanks, Greg!) As in previous episodes, I spend a few minutes to speak about my experience with the luthier’s guitars, as well as the builder’s history and their contributions to the world of modern steel string guitar making. If you’re unfamiliar with Ervin’s work, it is my great privilege to share with you this slice of guitar heaven…I am sent to the moon anytime I get to sit with one of his builds. They work incredibly well for how I play, and each guitar has so much individual personality and soul. I hope you enjoy this episode!
