Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seized upon Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem's announcement rejecting the US-brokered ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, responding to his furious ministers at a meeting of the Security Cabinet, who demanded a vote before its ratification, by stating that no agreement had yet been reached. The Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot and Channel 12 reported that Netanyahu told his ministers at the stormy meeting, held late Thursday, that he would not call for a vote now because "at the moment, there is no agreement. (Hezbollah) opposes it, and therefore I will not make a decision." He added, "If they agree, I will present it to you for ratification." Netanyahu's stance was an attempt to quell the anger at the meeting, which Channel 12 described as having turned into a heated confrontation. Ministers did not remain passive in the face of Hezbollah's continued attacks and strongly criticized Netanyahu. The ministers urged Netanyahu to change the course of the battle with Hezbollah and not to succumb to international dictates, expressing their deep frustration with Israel's current restraint and believing that the state is appearing weak.
