We’ve been living here in Germany for two years—first as students, and now as a couple. 6–7 Today’s topic is based on real data: Cost of Living in Germany. 8–15 In this video, we’ll talk in two parts: First, monthly expenses as a student, And second, monthly expenses for a couple (like husband and wife). So how much does it cost to live in Germany? We’ve covered everything in this video. 16–17 Let’s begin. We’ll first talk about student monthly expenses. 18–21 There are four main expenses for students: Room rent Groceries Transportation Health insurance 22–27 If you're living in a shared flat, the rent ranges from €350 to €500. If you're living in a single room, it's around €500 to €700. If you're living in a student dorm, you need to apply in advance, but it usually costs €250 to €350. 28–31 Second expense is groceries. A single person spends €150 to €200 monthly. If you shop smart at places like Lidl, Aldi, REWE, Kaufland— especially during discounts or morning markets—you can save more. 32–35 Third expense is transportation. You’ll need a monthly Deutschlandticket, which currently costs €59. But if you’re a student and have a semester ticket for six months, you can get the Deutschlandticket at half price. 36–41 Fourth is health insurance. There are two types: Public health insurance: €120 to €150 for students Private health insurance: €30 to €50 per month 42–44 Now let me break it down with some basic calculations. 45–49 Let’s say you’re living in a shared flat: Rent: €400 (average) Groceries: €150 Health insurance: €145 Semester transport ticket: €29 Total: €724/month 50–54 If you live in a private single room, rent will be higher. So, add around €120 more. That brings the total to around €844— rounding off, assume €850/month. 55–57 If you live in a student dorm, rent is lower. Deduct €80 from €724, so it's €644, or round it to €650/month. 58–60 So for students, depending on accommodation type: Shared flat: ~€724 Private room: ~€850 Student dorm: ~€650 61–63 Now let’s talk about couple expenses.
