In this video, we demonstrate the operation of an ultrasonic machine for welding (forming) plastic rivets, developed by our company for an automotive component manufacturer and supplier to the AVTOVAZ (LADA) plant. We were tasked with joining the polyamide and metal parts of a release bearing bushing by forming a precise plastic rivet. Before the introduction of ultrasonic welding, the process was performed manually using a heat gun, which resulted in inconsistent quality, variable rivet shapes, and a high defect rate. We developed an ultrasonic machine that ensured consistent rivet formation and repeatability. Testing revealed the increased wear resistance of glass-filled polyamide, so the waveguide design was modified—we used replaceable hardened steel tips, significantly increasing the equipment's service life. As a result, the customer received a reliable and durable solution for serial production.
