The truth will not be buried under the ruins! Nearly two weeks after the double earthquake of magnitudes 7.1 and 7.5 that devastated the northern part of the country, the humanitarian emergency has entered a critical phase of neglect and outrage. In a new bulletin issued this Monday by the regime's Ministry of Communication and Information, the death toll was officially reported at 3,535, with 16,740 injured, in addition to 17,854 citizens who lost their homes and are now crammed into 82 temporary camps. However, official government spokespeople like Jorge Rodríguez claimed that the figures for 856 damaged buildings and 190 collapsed buildings in seven states remain frozen. The most alarming statistics come from international organizations, whose records estimate the actual number of missing persons at 30,000, a colossal gap compared to the number of those rescued alive (6,462), which has remained completely unchanged since last Thursday. The inaction of the Venezuelan state has led to heartbreaking scenes in areas like Caraballeda (La Guaira), specifically in the OPP-26 complex. Relatives of the victims reported that the heavy machinery and extraction cranes arrived more than 10 days late, just as hopes of finding survivors were fading. Faced with institutional neglect, parents and siblings have been forced to break through concrete slabs and enter the collapsed structures "with their bare hands" and hand tools to salvage documents or attempt to recover the bodies of their loved ones for a proper burial. The testimonies gathered along the central coast reflect a devastating human tragedy: one father recounted the desperate search for his daughter and granddaughter trapped on the 10th floor of a tower, while another survivor pleaded for the rescue of his mother, a well-known nurse at the Social Security hospital in La Guaira, trapped with 38 other people in a basement. Families from inland states like Barinas are sleeping rough amidst the mud and rubble after 11 days of fruitless searching, denouncing the government's negligence in leaving the removal of tons of cement to the sole and dangerous responsibility of the citizens, while the earth continues to tremble with more than 1,048 aftershocks recorded.
